Some People

Sometimes she’d chase explanations that didn’t exist, trying to understand why kindness came so much harder to some people than cruelty.

Maybe they were hurting.

Maybe they’d been hurt.

Maybe they didn’t know any better.

For a long time, she looked for reasons.

These days, she’s less interested in explaining unkindness.

Some people are simply unkind.

Not all the time. Not to everyone. But enough.

Enough to leave a mark.

What interests her more now is kindness.

The people who choose it every day without recognition or reward.

The friend who checks in.

The stranger who helps.

The person who softens the edges of someone else’s difficult day.

Kindness isn’t loud.

It doesn’t demand attention.

It just quietly makes the world easier to live in.
